Do Blogs Influence Food?
05 14 2007I’m writing this today because I have a question for other people: Do blogs influence food? And, what I mean by that is, are there food blogs out there that entice you to try a new recipe or a new ingredient you haven’t tasted before? I’m curious. I’d like to know.
For me, food has always been something that I just have to try. with the exception of anything containing seafood (I am allergic to any seafood I’ve tried over the last 11 years,) I will eat just about anything, if only once. I’ve eaten cow tongue, I regularly enjoy spam (although most people don’t) and even though it has no taste, Tofu is even a welcome addition to every Christmas meal I have at my Dad’s house (My sister is a vegetarian and we do fondue at Christmastime – Fried tufo with a little salt is a very simple thing, but still has very subtle flavor) and I am probably one of the only people I know who’d be interested in trying Fois gras, although I haven’t yet.
And then I started Weinr. This was created to convey my passion for food to other people. To day, I would say “other people” would consist of roughly 500 individuals in the entire world
Anyway, the point of the blog was to share my experience and love for food, in a somewhat humorous environment where I could say about whatever I wanted to. But I’m still not sure how blogging affects or influences my food choices. Does it affect yours?
Maybe one of the problems is that I don’t have a particular laundry list of blogs that I read relating to food – I have a tough time finding other people also passionately involved – but I know that they’re out there. I know there are millions of people with Grandma’s recipes; there are people who love food. There are entire food television shows (and, if you’ve read before, you know that I watch Food Network – almost exclusively I might add) and food has always been an important part in everybody’s lives. But, up until today, I didn’t know that Food Network had a food blog – and they post to it. That amazes me. Why didn’t I know about it? And worse yet – how many other people have blogs about food that I’ve missed?
So, has blogging influenced your food decisions? Have you come up with ideas about food based on things that you’ve read? How about gone and started your own? Where are they at?
I should also throw in this post that I’m extremely indecisive when it comes to the topic of food around dinnertime. Like I said, I love food, but I can’t come up with a meal for the life of me. I would try anything, but I have a hard time coming up with a combination of things. Anyone have any ideas? Meals for two, please
