Open Letter to Food Network – Iron Chef Japan
01 3 2007Dear Food Network,

Please (please please!) bring back Iron Chef Japan. This is the simplest way to state it. I’ve enjoyed Iron Chef since I discovered the Food Network back in 2001. Yes, Food Network was founded in 1993[link] and was 8 years old when I discovered the thrill of Iron Chef, but it opened my eyes to the thrill of the show. I discovered Iron Chef in 2001 while visiting a friend’s house – They had some buddies over and were watching Iron Chef. I didn’t even know there was a food network at the time, but I was caught up in the entertainment of the show. The outrageous ingredients like foie gras. The campy Japanese feel of the dubbed english and Ota, the floor reporter’s “boxing match” style of reporting. Iron Chef mesmerized me. It made me want the Food Network at home. I didn’t see it again until 2004. that’s when I moved to a cable system that had Iron Chef Japanese. I moved in 2005, to a cable system where Food Network was unavailable. During that time, I remember *wanting* to watch Iron Chef. The only thing that I was able to do was watch reruns that I had captured on my TV Tuner card when I did have Food Network. I moved in 2006 into a new home. This cable system has Food Network. I enjoy shows like Good Eats, Feasting on Asphalt, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, Iron Chef America (although it’s just not quite the same) and Road Tasted. I’m a Food Network junkie. But I still miss Iron Chef. The original, Japanese version. It’s 2007, and Iron Chef Japan is rarely on Food Network. It’s on every few weeks at 4am. The last time I setup my computer to record it, I ended up with an hour long mpeg that was merely an infomercial. I have been saddened that I can no longer enjoy watching Iron Chef Japan. There are six years of Iron Chef, hundreds of episodes. Food Network: Throw us a bone! We, the fans, miss Iron Chef! We can’t get it over cable, and there are no DVD’s available to purchase. My hard drive that all my Iron Chef was on died, so now I’m left missing Iron Chef Japan.
Fans: I don’t even know if it’d help, but if you haven’t yet signed the online petition to bring Iron Chef to DVD, please consider doing so here.
